How to Create Custom Goals in Google Ads for Multiple Conversion Actions

Updated: Oct 2

Setting up conversion actions in Google Ads is essential for tracking and optimizing your advertising efforts. By designating a conversion action as the primary objective, you can steer your campaigns toward achieving that specific goal.

However, what if you have multiple conversion actions in your Google Ads account and wish to optimize your campaign towards multiple conversion goals simultaneously?

This is where custom goals in Google Ads come into play. In this blog post, I will walk you through the process of creating custom goals from multiple conversion actions, allowing you to fine-tune your campaigns to meet diverse objectives.

Let's consider a scenario where you have a website with two key conversion actions: form completions and phone calls. You want your Google Ads campaign to be optimized for both of these actions, as they are equally important for your business.

Creating a Custom Goal

  1. Go to the conversion action page in your Google Ads account.

  2. Scroll down to the "Custom Goals" section.

  3. Click on "Add a custom goal."

In the custom goal setup, you can choose multiple conversion actions from your account and include them as part of a single goal. In this example, you would select both "Form Completions" and "Phone Calls."

Applying the Custom Goal to Your Campaign

Now that you've created your custom goal, it's time to apply it to your campaign settings.

  1. Navigate to the settings of the campaign you want to optimize.

  2. In the "Goals" section, select "Use campaign-specific goal settings."

  3. From the dropdown menu, choose the custom conversion goal you just created.

By selecting the custom goal, your campaign will be optimized towards achieving all the conversion actions included in your goal. In this case, your campaign will work to maximize both form completions and phone calls.

Creating custom goals from multiple conversion actions in Google Ads is a flexible strategy for advertisers with diverse objectives.
